The Dark Side Of Greek Yogurt ›

vegandailynews:

The latest in “healthy” foods that are not actually good for us is Greek yogurt.  Every three to four ounces of milk produces only one ounce of the creamy snack,  and what’s left becomes acid whey, “a thin, runny waste product” too toxic to dump because whey decomposition could potentially turn waterways into aquatic-life-destroying “dead seas.”

There are endless choices of non-dairy yogurts that are not loaded with fat, sugar or animal proteins - none of which are associated with negative environmental impacts.

Can we stop pretending that you’ll save a bunch of poor starving African kids if you go vegan? The U.S. wasted 34 million tons of food last year. We could’ve given that to starving people, but we didn’t. If everyone ~goes vegan~, we’re not going to continue to produce the same amount of grain and then just ship all of it to third world countries.

Let’s start talking about capitalism and imperialism and let’s stop pretending we’re ~saving all those poor people~ just by buying different shit at the grocery store.

“While technically not on the actual roof of the house, this elderly woman attends to her rather comprehensive garden on the elevated plot next to her traditional home in the Bukchon neighborhood in Seoul. Considering the elevated price of produce this year, such a garden could provide considerable savings.” via Enderle Travelblog
